Last Day Of Autism Awareness Month
For the past couple of weeks, I've been preparing my daughter, Athena, for today. Okay, maybe the past couple of years to think about it.
What does today mean and represent? Her goals and dreams. See she is in 8th grade and will be trying out for her school's cheerleading team later this afternoon.
This is the first time in her teenager life that she has expressed interest in an extracurricular activity and sport. When she was younger she participated in adaptive dance, and also choir as an early middle school student. So this is an athletic interest of hers and I couldn't be more happy and proud of her!
I've watched her say that she wanted to be part of cheer for next school year. Seen her excitement and commitment to do the work to prepare for it. Although she lives with special-needs, she still can achieve her goals and dreams.
Some of the things she's done to prepare are practice her cheers and dance moves every single day since she learned them and get her clothes and gear ready for practice and tryouts.
The email with videos of the cheers sent from one of the school's cheer coach. Thank you Ms. P! All participating students had access to these to prepare. |
So many thank yous and gratitude for everyone who has believed in her and helped her get to this day.
I look forward to updating y'all on today's result. As well as share what other amazing things she will accomplish in her life.
This last day of autism awareness month represents Hope! Hope for individuals living with autism or any special needs. Their dreams, goals, voice, and life matter!
Continue to have important conversations about including others, no matter what their differences may be.
