How To Be A Special-Needs Mom

Or any mom for that matter. Being a mama is every single emotion and feeling there absolute is.

What it feels like to be a mom, special-needs or not, it literally feels like your heart embodied into another person (your child, each single child) and walking around the world and being exposed to everything, good, bad, and everything in between and you just want to protect, love, and raise this precious extension of yourself.

It feels like the best emotion, feeling, choice, EVER! Children bring out the absolute best and worst in you and reveal things to you about your and your parenting style that can be a reflection of you.

The How:

1) Make a decision to accept your children as they are and unconditionally love, care, support, and raise them. They need you so much to thrive in this life.

2) Ask God to give you a why or purpose. I know when I first learned that I'd be a special-needs mom, I can recall asking God before she was diagnosed what my purpose in life was. And then shortly after, He revealed it to me. When the purpose is known, your life can be fueled by passion and God.

3) Decide what you want your roles and responsibilities as a special-needs mother to be? This can be tentative due to circumstances and seasons in your families special-needs journey. The main roles and responsibilities should be unwavering. It doesn't have to be anything long and drawn out. Simple is okay too, it might be easier to remember! I remember when I chose what my roles and responsibilities would be for my girls: To raise and care for their spiritual, emotional, and educational needs as their advocate, caregiver, and mother.

4) Choose every single day to love your baby unconditionally. The world will love them some days and not so much other days, you be the constant, reliable, consistent loving presence in their life. Love them like how God loves you, in the most purest truest form, unconditionally with no strings attached.

5) Give yourself some grace because you are doing your best each day for you and your precious family. You are the queen and mother of the home and girl, rule your castle!

6) When in excitement or need, seek God. He will comfort and be there in all times. He may also lead you to resources that can help you and your family. He may even connect you with an awesome mama tribe that supports you!

These are just examples, do what works best for you and your sweet family. Reach out if you like,  I'm here for you!

XO,

Minerva

1 Corinthians 13:4-7 (NIV)

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
